Self-pay Payment Terms
These terms apply to patients who pay privately for consultations, tests or treatment instead of using private medical insurance.
Last updated: 2 June 2026
1. Consultation fees
The self-pay fee is £230 for an initial consultation and £150 for a follow-up consultation, unless the practice confirms a different fee in writing.
2. What is not included
Consultation fees do not include hospital facility charges, diagnostic tests, blood tests, pathology, imaging, endoscopy, procedures, anaesthetic fees, medication or follow-up appointments unless confirmed in writing.
3. Estimates and separate invoices
If tests or procedures are recommended, separate estimates may be provided by the hospital, anaesthetist, laboratory or other providers. Patients are responsible for checking these costs before proceeding.
4. Payment timing
Consultation fees will be emailed and must be paid within the timescales stated in the invoice. Procedure fees or deposits may be requested by the hospital or practice before treatment.
5. Cancellation and non-attendance
If an appointment is cancelled at short notice or a patient does not attend, a cancellation or non-attendance fee may be charged. The practice should confirm the applicable notice period at the time of booking.
6. Insured patients who become self-pay
If an insurer declines authorisation, applies an excess, refuses payment or does not cover part of the care, the patient may be responsible for the outstanding balance.
Insurance shortfalls - These must be settled directly with us. Electronic invoices are emailed once we are advised of a shortfall and must be settled within the due date stated on the invoice.
7. Late payment
Unpaid invoices may be followed up by the practice or its billing provider. Reasonable administration or recovery costs may be added where permitted.
8. Refunds
Refunds are considered where a payment has been taken in error or where an appointment or service is cancelled in line with the applicable cancellation terms.
9. Clinical suitability
Payment does not guarantee that a requested test or procedure will be clinically appropriate. Dr Besherdas will advise based on clinical assessment.
10. Emergency care
Gastro Health is not an emergency service. For urgent or emergency symptoms, call 999, NHS 111 or attend A&E as appropriate.
